A project was given to a group of children as part of Network 17. They called themselves the Magnificent 7, and by teaming up with the PTA Friends installed a kitchen for the pupils to use. At the planning stage they took into consideration the children’s needs and requirements such as different height worktops, cooking hobs, cooker height and storage units. For this project they were asked to plan, cost and oversee all aspects and as a result we now have a fully functional kitchen for the whole school to use.
This has been used for many projects including Year 5 taking part in the Lets Get Cooking Master Chef, cooking Dumplings to celebrating Chinese New Year and many more activities. Over this time we have used our new kitchen to produce many excellent dishes. We have also run parent and child cookery workshops which have proven very successful.
We are very lucky to have our kitchen and think it is a valuable asset to our school.
It is now time for another inspiring project. This will be lead by the Fantastic 4 and we all can't wait to get involved. Watch this space!
We are currently working towards achieving Level 1 of the Right Respecting Schools Award.
A Rights Respecting School teaches children their rights and models rights and respect in all its relationships: adult to pupil, pupil to adult and pupil to pupil.
All of our classrooms have Class Charters based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), we have numerous displays and references to the UNCRC around the school and you will hear adults and children use the language of a Rights Respecting School in their everyday discourse.
Our Steering Group is made up of children and adults, with the children taking a big lead in the project. Our steering group members were:
Mrs Harrington - Year 6 Teacher
Courtney Priday – Year 6 Pupil
Tayla Summers - Year 6 Pupil
Max Baker - Year 6 Pupil
Miss White – Year 5 Teacher
Mrs Brown – Year 3 Teaching Assistant
Mrs Brooks – Year 1 Teaching Assistant
