GoNumeracy Workshop is a computer based club which meets for half an hour every Thursday after school for Years 1, 2 and 3. The children look at many areas of numeracy and use interactive computer activities to help them develop and improve their understanding. As they explore each task Year 1 and 2 practise sequencing, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and basic problem solving. Year 3 face more complex problem solving, and they need to decide which mathematical skill they will need to used to complete each task. They may encounter sorting, division, fractions, pyramid addition and angles.
Each mathematician takes part in a weekly challenge and is awarded points which go towards the end of term Class trophies.
The children show great enthusiasm and enjoy this opportunity to extend their numeracy and computing skills. Some of their favourite games include:
Amazing Amanda which helps them sequence numbers
Dress the Dog which practises counting tens and units
Give the Dog a Bone for quick recognition of a 100 square
Ghostblasters which helps them in many areas as they blast odd, even, multiples of 2, 5, and 10
Shopping
Billy Bug who needs help with his co-ordinates
We get to do lots of fun stuff. It helps me with my numbers and counting. It’s excellent. I like playing Amazing Amanda.
I love Maths Club it makes me more confident with my maths and I like trying to win the trophy.
