In Year 2, we have been learning about ‘The Great Fire of London’. We have found out about how it started and the causes of why it took hold so quickly and caused so much damage. We researched the type of equipment they used in 1666 and discovered that the resources available to them were quite inadequate to cater for the large scale of the fire.
We decided to visit our local fire station to investigate what type of equipment we have today and to compare it to that of the past. We had a great time sitting in the fire engines, handling all sorts of tools, trying on the protective clothing and even had a go on the large hose pipes!
The fireman helped everyone hold the big heavy hose pipe and we all sprayed lots of water and made big puddles.
It was brilliant going to the Fire Station. We looked at the fire engines. It was amazing.
