Letter from the Hope Uniform Exchange

I am writing to inform you of the recent closure of the Hope Uniform Exchange, a valuable resource for parents in need of assistance with acquiring school uniforms. Last week, I was tasked with overseeing the closure due to funding challenges. Unfortunately, the increasing costs associated with rents, insurances, transportation, and administrative obligations became unsustainable for us to self-fund. Despite the closure, I would like to draw your attention to the new initiative we have launched to continue supporting parents in North Somerset and Somerset. We have created a monitored Facebook group titled "The Uniform Exchange (Somerset & North Somerset)" accessible at this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theuniformexchange. I have also attached the group's logo to this email for your convenience if you wish to update your website with the new details. The purpose of this group is to facilitate direct communication between parents for uniform donations and requests, eliminating the need for storage facilities. If your school operates its own "in-house" exchange, please inform me, and I will gladly include it in a featured post within the group. Additionally, we may still have branded uniform items that could be donated directly to your school. During the weekend, we connected with over 20 parents from various schools, PTAs, and organisations who have successfully exchanged uniforms. The positive response has been heartening, and it has been a pleasure working with such passionate and genuine individuals. If your website contains information on Hope Uniform Exchange may we kindly request that you update your website with the new information and consider including it in your next parental communication email or newsletter. The closure of Hope Uniform Exchange marks the end of an era that has benefited thousands of parents in the North Somerset area, and we have received numerous expressions of gratitude for the services provided. If your school is one of the locations hosting a collection bin, please be advised that myself or a team member from my company may be in touch within the next couple of days to arrange collection. Measles

Measles cases prompt MMR vaccine call
Measles is an infection that spreads very easily and can cause serious problems in some people. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported an increase in measles across the country and is encouraging people to check that they and their children have had two doses of the MMR vaccine. Currently, there are no cases of measles reported in North Somerset, but action is important now to prevent cases of measles and stop it from spreading.
The free MMR vaccine is a safe and effective way of protecting against measles, as well as mumps and rubella.
It’s important for you to take up the offer of MMR vaccination for your children when it’s offered at 1 year of age and as a pre-school booster at three years, four months of age. If children and young adults have missed these vaccinations in the past, please ask your GP for a vaccination appointment. This is particularly important in light of the recent cases in other parts of the UK.
Check your child’s Red Book to see if they’ve received MMR vaccinations as scheduled or check with your GP surgery if you’re unsure. Most healthy adults will have developed some immunity to measles but can still receive two doses of the vaccine from their GP too.
You are very unlikely to get measles if you've had both doses of the MMR vaccine or you've had measles before. Measles symptoms to be aware of include:
· high fever
· sore, red, watery eyes
· coughing
· aching and feeling generally unwell
· a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the initial symptoms.
Anyone who thinks they have measles are being advised to stay at home and phone their GP or NHS 111 for advice. For more information about measles, see the nhs.uk/measles website.

Dear Parent/Carer,
PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION (Spring 2024)
I am writing to you to invite you to stand for election as a parent governor, or nominate another parent to do so. In our school, we currently have two parent governor vacancies.
The governing body, with the headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school. Governing bodies have three core strategic functions:
● Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
● Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
● Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work. Training is available for all governors and this governing body has an expectation that those new to being a governor attend induction training.
The enclosed pack summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a governor. In addition, parents/carers who have paid employment in the school for 500 or more hours per academic year or who are elected members of the Local Authority are not eligible to stand in these elections. Nominations must be from parents or carers with children currently placed at the school on the day that nominations close.
If you would like to stand for election, please complete the nomination form on our website HERE and return it to the school no later than Friday 19th January at 12:00. You may also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 250 words. Self-nominations will be accepted, but if you are nominating another parent please seek their prior consent.
If there are more nominations than vacancies, the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure.
