Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

What are we learning?

 

This year, we have some exciting history and geography topics.

.

In Terms 1&2 we look at the Ancient Greeks, learning all about the location and history of Greece, with a focus on Athens and its rivalry with Sparta. We will also look at Greece's city states and the Trojan war and Iliad. We will continue after half term by looking famous philosophers, the Olympic games, democracy and language and architecture. We will end out topic by learning about the Persian Empire.

 

In Terms 3&4 we focus on geography and in particular The UK and Europe. We will focus on the different regions of the UK and the different countries within it. We will study the changing population and the global links of the UK. This will lead nicely into our study of Europe where we will learn all about the weather and climate of European countries, the major cities within Europe, both the physical and human features of the countries within Europe and tourism.

 

To finish off the year in Term 5, we will study the fall of the Roman Empire and what it meant to be Roman. We will delve deeper to look at the Roman invasion of Britain, Boudica’s rebellion against Roman Rule and the Buildings of Roman Britain. We will end our history topic by looking at towns in Roman Britain and the changes to life brought about by Roman settlement.

 

In Term 6 we will study our final geography topic by learning all about mountains and volcanos. We will learn how mountains and volcanos are formed and their features. We will look at UK peaks and the impact of living near volcanos and their eruptions.
